Chase Caldwell
Chase is a Pensacola native with a breadth of experience litigating civil matters at the trial and appellate levels. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in 2005 and went on to earn his law degree from Nova Southeastern University in 2008. While at Nova, excelled in trial advocacy and was a semi-finalist in the Feinrider Mock Trial Competition and a member of the Moot Court Honor Society.
Chase began his legal career as an associate attorney in the Tampa Bay Area where he worked extensively on the landmark case Curd v. Mosaic Fertilizer, LLC, 39 So. 3d 1216 (Fla. 2010), in which the Florida Supreme Court recognized the right of commercial fishermen to recover damages for the decimation of marine life in public waters due to a toxic phosphogypsum spill. He also obtained a $692,000.00 judgment in a commercial foreclosure action which was affirmed by the Second District Court of Appeals. In 2013, Chase joined the multistate firm of Phelan, Hallinan, Diamond and Jones as an associate. He soon became Regional Managing Attorney, overseeing complex foreclosure litigation in the firm’s Tampa and Orlando offices and handling thousands of hearings, motions, and trials on behalf of major institutional lenders.
While practicing full-time, Chase was accepted into the University of Alabama’s prestigious LL.M. Program, with a focus on business transactions. He completed his LL.M. and was recruited as corporate counsel by Syniverse Technologies, LLC, a global leader in wireless infrastructure and telecommunications. In this role, he gained a wealth of transactional and corporate law experience but soon found that he missed being in the trenches and advocating for his clients. In 2017, he returned home to Pensacola and the courtroom, founding a successful solo practice which he maintained until joining Whibbs, Stone, Barnett in 2019. His practice at the firm focuses on civil litigation and trial law, and he also assists businesses ranging from startups to enterprise-level entities with formation, structuring, and governance matters.
