Should the law firm working on my case handle appeals?

CNN | Amanda KnoxCNN reported this morning that Amanda Knox will stand trial again for the death or her roommate in Italy.  Knox is currently in the United States after her 2007 conviction was reversed and there is some speculation as to whether she will voluntarily return to Italy.

Knox’s case is a strong reminder of the role of appellate courts in undoing the work of lawyers at the trial level – be the results good or bad.  Litigation can be a long road and it is important to hire a legal team that has a proven willingness to go the distance.  When hiring a law firm, it is important to consider the possibility that the case could go up on appeal.  The attorneys at Whibbs Stone Barnett, have a strong track record of defending good results at the trial court level and reversing lower courts in decisions which are not favorable, and have successfully handled appeals up to the Florida Supreme Court.  In 2011, our attorneys were successful in getting a client released from prison who had been illegally searched in violation of his constitutional rights.  Working with a trial team with appellate experience ensures that issues which should be preserved for appeal are not lost.

If you are interviewing a law firm, you are encouraged to ask about the firm’s appellate experience.  We would be glad to meet with you to discuss your legal situation.  Whibbs Stone Barnett is a full service firm serving the Gulf Coast, including military families, with offices in Mobile, Pensacola, and Fort Walton Beach. Our attorneys handle claims throughout the southeast and will come to you if needed.
